NC Pre-Kindergarten Program

Your 4-year-old child may be eligible to attend preschool.

Stokes Partnership for Children administers the NC Pre-K program. NC Pre-K is a statewide initiative to provide a high-quality pre-kindergarten experience for at-risk 4-year-olds to prepare them to enter school the following year.

Stokes Partnership for Children is the Contract Administrator for the NCPK program in Stokes County. This means that all applications for NCPK are processed and eligibility determined at Stokes Partnership for Children. Applications may be picked up from their office located at 151 Jefferson Church Rd. in King, NC or downloaded from their web site.

NCPK classrooms in Stokes County are located at: Danbury Head Start, King Elementary, London Elementary, Mt. Olive Head Start, New Life Center (Walnut Cove), Pinnacle Elementary, Poplar Springs Elementary, and Walnut Cove Elementary.

Age Requirements

A child must turn 4 years old on or before August 31st of the program year. Children who are age eligible for kindergarten cannot be served with NCPK funds.

Income Requirements

A child that meets the age requirements is eligible for NC Pre-K if the child is from a family whose gross income is at or below 75% of the State Median Income level.

Additional Eligibility Criteria

Any age-eligible child who is a child of either of the following shall be eligible for the program, without regard to income: an active duty member of the Armed Forces of the United States OR a member of the Armed Forces of the United States who were injured or killed while serving on active duty.

Additional Eligible Children

Once all income-eligible children are served, age-eligible children may be enrolled who have family incomes in excess of 75% of the state median income if the child has one of the following risk factors:

Identified developmental disability (has Individualized Education Plan)
Limited English Proficiency as indicated by the family and/or child speaking limited or no English in the home
An educational need as indicated by the child's performance results on an approved developmental screening
A chronic health condition that the professional health care provider has diagnosed and identified to interfere with a child's development and learning
